It was a busy 2016 spring and summer for the twelve member Civic Development Committee, which plants and maintains eight gardens in the Augusta area.

At MaineGeneral Medical Center, Alfond Center for Health, a sweet perennial garden was planted in 2014 with plants donated by members and maintained during 2015. The committee also decorated the back patio area of the hospital for fall. In the late fall committee members cut back not only the small garden but all the non-woody perennials surrounding the patio area.

Maintenance work was done on the gardens by the Viles Arboretum entrance in Augusta, Cohen Center, Hallowell, Children’s Center, Augusta and Hubbard Free Library, Hallowell.
One member spent several hours at the Winthrop ball field “taming” the ever growing shrubs on the banking.
